In two weeks, on July 17th, the state of Texas plans to kill Christopher Young. At a young age, Chris lost his own father to murder. He later became involved with gangs and became a drug addict as a young man, which led to his tragic decision to rob a local store, and to the shooting death of another father, Hasmukh Patel. The fact that this was a tragic circle of violence is not lost on Mr. Young, who has worked hard to support his own daughters and mentor troubled young men despite his incarceration, but it is also not lost on the son of Mr. Patel. Mr. Patel’s son has asked the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles to end the cycle of killing so that he can meet with Mr. Young, and so that his two young girls are not left fatherless in the name of “justice”. It is now in the hands of the courts and Governor Abbott whether these men will have a chance to heal and end the cycle of pain and violence that began with Mr. Young’s own traumatic childhood. Please use the links below to learn more and to join actions to support clemency for Christopher Young! His life matters, and his daughters do not deserve to be made innocent victims of the death penalty system. Ask the governor to commute his sentence to Life in Prison so he can meet with Mr. Patel’s family and continue to be a loving father to his children.
