Things in Houston are heating up, and we don’t just mean the forecast. Anger is growing towards both city and county officials who increasingly are choosing to cut services while increasing funds to police, surveil, deport, and cage Houstonians. Community outrage has been expressed in meetings over the continued abuse and deaths happening in our jail and the for-profit outsourced facilities, but County officials continue to pass the buck and allegedly try to solve the issue by putting more money into the same crooked system. To add insult to injury, local police are increasingly turning over our friends, family, and neighbors to ICE while County officials feign outrage at Trump’s policies.
